Competition FAQs
- Why should I enter?
Is your business looking for growth capital? How does $100,000 sound? How about free coworking space, pro bono services, and connections? If this sounds appealing apply here.
- Why should I grow my startup in the Greater Louisville region?
Greater Louisville has a vibrant and extremely supportive startup ecosystem that is increasing in momentum. To learn more about our ecosystem and its resources visit StartupLou.
- Who is eligible to apply?
Although the competition is designed to align with our region’s strategic industries such as in advanced manufacturing, healthcare, food and beverage, logistics, data science, artificial intelligence, internet of things, and general technology, we encourage startups from all industries (and locations) to apply! Learn more about our eligibility rules here.
- Is this an accelerator?
Render Competition is not an accelerator. We are a capital-forward program focusing on adding vibrancy to our region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem through connections and capital, rather than direct programming.
- Is this venture capital/are you taking an equity stake?
This investment is a warrant agreement for a 5% equity stake, exercisable within 10 years. A warrant is simply an option for Render Capital to join the ownership group at some point within the term agreement. For many of the winning companies, we may not elect to exercise this option.
- If selected, will my startup need to relocate to the Greater Louisville region?
Yes! You must locate your company and 51% of full-time founding team, or 51% staff and at least one full time founder, to Louisville/Southern IN (Jefferson, Clark, Floyd counties) for at least one year beginning in November 2020. We welcome applications from any location and can provide relocation services through our partners.
- If selected, what is required of me and my company?
Locating to Greater Louisville for at least one year and providing Render Competition with ongoing company data.
- If selected, what coworking spaces can I choose from?
Our partners include The Park, Story Louisville, and The Root.
- What will I need to prepare for the application?
Applicants will need to provide detailed information to tell your company’s story. This includes detailing your company’s origin, the current conditions, as well as future plans. Also, if your company progresses to Stage 3, you will need to pitch live in Louisville, September 22. Please know that you do not have to complete your application in one sitting. Feel free to begin the application, get comfortable with the requested information, and work on your submission over time (as long as you submit before the period closes).
